(from the Lancaster County Emergency Management Agency's
Press Release dated July 8, 2006)

LANCASTER COUNTY ELIGIBLE FOR FEDERAL DISASTER ASSISTANCE

Due to the recent rains of last week, Lancaster County has joined the list of other Countys' designated as a federal disaster area enabling citizens and businesses who suffered losses to apply for aid and assistance.

Randall S. Gockley, County Emergency Management Coordinator, is urging impacted citizens to take the first step in the process and register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) by calling 1-800-621-3362 or applying online at www.fema.gov/assistance.

Please have the following information available when you call:
  • A phone number where you can be reached
  • Social Security Number
  • Current mailing address
  • Address of the affected property
  • Brief description of the damages
  • Insurance information including policy number
Assistance that may be available includes:  disaster funds for temporary housing such as rental assistance and repair of primary residences; low interest loans to renters and homeowners to repair homes or replace personal property, as well as assist businesses; and funds to help meet serious disaster-related needs and expenses such as personal property, transportation, medical, dental and funeral costs, not met by insurance or other programs.

Gockley will be meeting with FEMA personnel on Monday morning (July 10, 2006) to gather further information for what assistance is available.  FEMA personnel will be out this week in areas affected by the flooding to distribute information on registration to those impacted.
